Specific Need

Please help support our Annual Back to School Program.

In 2026, we gave away 225 backpacks and school supplies to Atchison County families. Each backpack and school supplies saved families $103 per child amounting to a total savings of $23,175.00 to Atchison county families. We have always relied on private donations and grants with no public government funding. Your donations make a real impact to our community.

Through our annual Backpack Giveaway, local school children receive free backpacks (while supplies last) and school supplies to help them succeed in the new school year, other programs and resources available to families in our community, and other fun giveaways.

The event is geared toward school year preparation, local partners also offer free services to those in attendance generally held the first weekend in August every year.

What We Do

Specifically, we encourage people to engate and reduce chronic disease reduction risk factors with population based health strategies.

Increased Physical Activity. Sitting is the new smoking. Get up, get active, get blood flowing, and increase your steps to better overall health, reduce arthritis symptoms, and lose weight.
Healthy Eating. Working to create sustainable food systems that are nutritional and equitable for all.
Tobacco-Free Living. Tobacco has changed its strategies, but reducing tobacco products including vapes is better for chronic health.
Mental Well-Being. Behavioral Health is connected to our physical health. We support initiatives that provide resources for inproving mental health for all citizens.

We strive to accomplish these goals by engaging with the community through community policy, schools, healthcare, workplaces, restaurants, and food retailers.

Live Well Atchison County, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit base in Atchison, Kansas. Since 2011, when informal meetings were taking place among community leaders, Live Well Atchison County, Inc. was at the forefront of population-based health to dig in and discover what areas of our community are unhealthy and how do we improve our county's health.

We were one of the worst rated counties in Kansas for Health from the 2010 health rankings and a path was set forth to reverse those rankings. We have made huge strides in health rankings since 2011 and are now ranked in the top 50% of Kansas Counties for Health Outcomes and Health Factors.
