Profile

The programs Theatre Atchison operates within it live theater.

Theatre Athcison’s longest running youth workshop Summerstage, established in 1989, was designed with an educational approach to learning about a theater production while taking a hands-on experience.  Exercises are done in acting techniques, imagination development, and self-expression. The emphasis is on the learning process rather than the polished performance as the product.  Students pay $85 to be a part of the workshop.  This is considered  a pay and play event.  That means every student enrolled is guaranteed a part. Summerstage runs the months of June and July.   Our workshop consists of both a morning session and an afternoon session each with 25 students.  Our total capacity is 50 students grades 2nd-6th and 50 students grades 7th-12th

The After School Players began in 2008 and is open to students in grades 2nd through 6th.  Typically we have a large turnout for auditions so two casts of no more than 30 students in each cast.  Both casts rehearse and perform the same play. Each cast has two performances and students who are cast in the production after auditions pay a nominal fee of $15 to be part of this experience.  In the last 13 years we have produced 26 quality workshop productions which have been enjoyed by literally thousands of parents and family members alike.

Youth educational activities include After School classes which explore theater character development, building acting skills, and exploring the theater arts in other cultures.  In addition, we are offering Home School Classes which take place during the fall and spring. Each class is structured specifically towards the home school needs with in their curriculum.  This early spring prior to the shutdown the high school home school group studied Julies Caesar by William Shakespeare.
