Specific Need

Live Well Atchison County, Inc. has a few specific needs that we could use your help this year. Since 2020, we have worked hard to re-establish our role in Atchison County. Donations to our organization will help us establish and increase our services in our community. We need help to improve and expand our Atchison County Bike Share Progam. We are actively working on projects with our partners at Atchison Community Health Clinic, USD 409, USD 377 to establish stronger school based health system with access to mental health in our school systems for kids and adults and reduction of tobacco and vaping. We are working to increase access to alternative transportation in our communities through walkable and bicycle forms fo transportation. We are working with our Atchison Farmers Market to establish a Food Policy Council to get access of healthy foods to our communities. We are working with Project Concern, Inc. to help increase public transportation to citizens and senior citizen activities. We are working with our local YMCA to increase physical activity to older citizens and reestablish our Walk with Docs program.

Specifically, we encourage people to

Get active. Walk, bike, play outside–just get moving.
Eat healthier. Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables and less processed food. Cook at home and use whole foods.
Reduce/eliminate tobacco use.
Refrain from underage drinking and youth prescription-drug misuse.
Get happy and be connected. We’re social beings and when we’re connected to neighbors, friends, family, and community organizations, well-being and happiness increase.

We strive to accomplish these goals by engaging with the community through community policy, schools, healthcare, workplaces, restaurants, and food retailers.

Since 2011, Live Well Live Atchison has been a vibrant community action group focused on improving the overall health and well-being of Atchison County residents. Our work is organized under four priorities – physical activity, healthy eating, tobacco-free living, and behavioral health. Our aim is to help people feel inspired, capable, motivated, and prepared to improve their health. We want to get people moving more, eating healthier, feeling better, and enjoying more energized lives. LWLA believes that changes to policy systems and environments are the most effective means of promoting and sustaining healthy lifestyles and uses advocacy and education across key sectors to effect these changes.
