Atchison County Food Pantry

Goal: $15,000.00

Specific Need

Atchison County Food Pantry is an all-volunteer organization that distributes food boxes containing food staples, meat, produce and bakery items every other week to around 300 households including more than 700 individuals in Atchison County in need of food assistance each month.  In addition to the more than 4,000 lbs. of food we rescue each month through Feeding America and Second Harvest we must purchase an average of $4,000 additional food each month.  More than 98% of your contribution will go directly to food purchases.

Mission

Our mission is to provide food to any resident who lives or works in Atchison County in need of food assistance, whether on a temporary or sustained basis.

Profile

We are an all-volunteer organization that is a mission and partner of the First Christian Church in Atchison.  We serve all residents that live or work in Atchison County in need of food assistance.  As First Christian Church provides us storage space for setup and distribution, and we have no paid staff, over 98% of our contributions go to purchase food for the food-insecure residents of Atchison County.   We distribute food biweekly in a drive-through distribution as well as occasionally additional produce if available.  We partner with Catholic Charities to provide a turkey and all the fixings to 300 families each year at Thanksgiving.  Around 20 regular volunteers spend more than 350 hours monthly obtaining, sorting, preparing and distributing the food.    Benedictine students and the youth group at First Christian Church help when available.
