Atchison Community Health Clinic

Goal: $12,000.00

Specific Need

ACHC is excited to announce a capital improvement project to renovate a new medical space at 516 Commercial. Growth has been considerable over the years and ACHC is in need of dedicated space to house our medical program to triple our exam room space, provide dedicated space to training, and patient support services. The project will cost $2.3 million dollars and will be supported by capital grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration, local support from the City of Atchison (ARPA non-profit allocation), and financing. Your support enables us to dedicate more services to those that are uninsured and underinsured in our community.

Profile

Atchison Community Health Clinic offers high-quality healthcare services to all people located in Atchison County and its surrounding areas. We believe that quality healthcare is for everyone, regardless of a person’s ability to pay. We are committed to serving the uninsured as well as those with Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance. Our services are available to all age groups. Because we offer medical, dental, and behavioral health services, we have the unique ability to treat the entire person.

The Atchison Community Health Clinic opened in 2009 when Atchison physicians, Chad Johanning and Aaron Sinclair, sought to meet the primary health care needs of the underinsured and uninsured citizens in Atchison and surrounding counties.

In its formative years, ACHC was only open for two evening clinics per week. Dr. Sinclair enlisted the help of a few local dentists, nurses, doctors, social workers, and other community members to volunteer their time and expertise and offer free medical and dental care to meet the growing needs of the community.

The focus of the clinic has always been on prevention, education, and wellness, encouraging people to seek out routine preventative care before requiring emergent care.

In August of 2015, ACHC received the New Access Point Grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and joined the Community Health Center program. This grant is awarded from the federal government to facilitate the delivery of healthcare services to underserved and vulnerable populations. This award has enabled ACHC to become a Federally Qualified Health Center offering high-quality primary healthcare services to all, regardless of a person’s ability to pay.

Since that initial award, ACHC has expanded services and cared for more patients each year. ACHC offers primary care services and acute care, restorative and preventative dental care, and behavioral health services including individual and family therapy. All services are available full-time. ACHC offers behavioral health services and dental hygiene services in our local schools to ensure that children are getting the services they need. ACHC also offers 340b pharmaceutical programming which has shown to save our patients over $2 MILLION in medication costs since its beginning in 2019.

ACHC does not turn patients away due to inability to pay and has demonstrated increased uncompensated care costs each year since 2015.

At ACHC, we’re the everybody clinic.  We take care of the body, mind, and spirit in a compassionate, respectful, and professional manner. Insurance status shouldn't be a barrier to care. Our staff is excited to continue expanding our services and remains committed to improving the quality of life, health, and well-being of all those in Atchison County and the surrounding regions.

In June of 2023, the Atchison Community Health Clinic opened a new clinic location at Mall Towers through a collaboration with the Atchison Housing Authority. This enables residents at the facility to get access to healthcare that is litterally steps from their apartment. This removes transporation as a barrier and increases access to preventative medical services and behavioral healthcare.
